A short story behind Veja

It all started in 2003, when the future founders of this company - Sébastien Kopp and François-Ghislain Morillion - went to Brazil to meet with the manufacturers of the fabrics they intended to use for their footwear. That’s how they met farmers growing organic cotton and the so called seringueiros - rubber gatherers. It was in the heart of the Amazon rainforest that they established the production chain for their company. The name of the brand was inspired by a nearby village - Veja.

One year later the founders started their company, although it was officially launched in February 2005 in Paris. The entrepreneurs got down to work right away. They started a constituci with a French designer, Agnes b., and launched their first collection of footwear, whose colours were derived from... vegetable dyes. Soon the brand presented the line created in constituci with Christine Phung. The presentation was made in Centre Pompidou. In 2008 the brand launched a line of sneakers for children and opened up a studio in London.

And that was just the beginning. By 2010 the brand earned such reputation that Centre Commercial in Paris could manage only a specific number of customers in peak hours. Those who were waiting for their turn were given ice cream and coffee. An important moment came at the turn of 2012/2013, when Veja won two fashion awards in the United Kingdom and launched a collection of printed trainers. What was so special about them? The designers were inspired by maps drawn by Professor Greg Asner, which represent the ecosystem of the tropical forest!
