When Adolf Dassler produced his first shoes made of military tent canvas and rubber from fuel tanks, he wanted to make them suitable for Bavarian students. Soon afterwards Adi decided to come up with state-of-the-art sports shoes and other items of clothing. In 1924 he started to cooperate with his brother. The originator of this enterprise was Adolf, so it was his first name – or, more precisely, the diminutive – that gave rise to the brand name, which still holds the leading position on the market. Shoes by adidas have been worn by participants of the Olympics since 1934 (this is when the representatives of Germany and the USA wore shoes manufactured by the Dassler brothers.) Although in 1948, after World War II, the enterprise split in two, which is how adidas and Puma started, the position of the brand remained unchanged, and sportspeople reach for the most recent models every season. adidas shoes are popular both among professionals and amateurs, which proves that the portfolio of the brand is immensely versatile.

In 1936 the shoes produced by the Dassler brothers became famous when a black athlete, Jesse Owens, won as many as four gold medals in them during the Olympics in Berlin, which drove Hitler insane.
