As mentioned before, Carhartt started out as a workwear manufacturer. The designed first came up with dungarees  made of denim and rigid canvas known as “duck.” Reliable, durable duck soon became the flagship fabric of the brand. Although the beginnings were not smooth, and the company was only saved because the owner managed to keep his cool, the brand soon started its way to the top. All that was needed was a standard market research. The entrepreneur asked workmen what clothes they needed and then started manufacturing just the thing that was called for. Based on a single survey, he modified his product portfolio and came up with products that made the company grow.

W.I.P is for Work in Progress

Soon Carhartt was virtually everywhere – also in video clips. Since the brand was becoming increasingly popular, the demand for its products was on the rise, both in the USA and in Europe. On this occasion, it’s worth mentioning Edwin Faeh and his twin brother Laurine, who founded Big Star in 1972. After a while Edwin Faeh left the family business and founded another company – Work In Progress, which became the sole distributor of Carhartt products in Europe.
