Reebok shoes & clothing for women: where does it come from?

The history of Reebok started in 1895 with a family-owned business, founded by Joseph William Foster and his parents. Joseph was only 14 when he began creating his own shoe designs for runners. The Foster family was determined to create the best running shoes, giving athletes an edge against their opponents in professional competition.

At that time, Reebok was known simply by the name of J.W. Foster. Their first major invention was introducing and popularizing spikes in running shoes, designed to give competitors better grip and make the shoes less slippery. It wasn’t until 1958 that the company changed its name to Reebok. The J.W. While the name Reebok is recognizable worldwide now, back then it was just a fun, meaningless thing - the owners picked a random word from a South African dictionary that one of them won in a race as a kid. In Afrikaans, the name stands for a species of antelope commonly found in Africa - a reference to how fast you’ll wear when you put them on!
